What Yeffet is

Yeffet is an open-access museum you can download. It gathers public-domain art from open museum collections into one place you can browse by movement, subject, medium, period and artist — and every work can be saved at the full resolution its museum publishes.

Today the index holds 10,922 works from 13 collections, organised by 974 topics in 16 families. It grows as more collections are indexed.

Rights policy

• Public domain and CC0 only. A work appears here only when its holding institution marks it public domain, dedicates it under CC0, or labels it with the Public Domain Mark. Works under attribution or share-alike licences are left out.
• Every download carries its source and licence. Saving a work gives you the original file and a .json sidecar naming the museum, the record, the rights statement, the licence and the source URLs, so provenance travels with the file.
• Images come from the museums. Files stream from each institution’s own servers. Where a museum serves images only on its own site, we link there instead.
• Check before commercial reuse. Institutions sometimes revise their records. A Wikimedia Commons file is offered only if its own Commons page states public domain or CC0; photographs licensed for attribution or share-alike are left out, however old the painting.

The topic taxonomy began from a published art-genome classification. Every topic text on the site is our own writing, drawn from the established art-historical record.
